Chapter Lead - Alberta

Kris Valckx
My name is Kris "Big Daddy" Valckx, and I'm the Pitmaster for Calgary-based Rocky Mountain Smokers. We've been competing for 9 years, with multiple Grand Champions and Reserve Grand Champions, and in 2017 were one of three teams drawn to represent Canada at the Jack where we finished with a 12th place brisket. I run Pitmaster classes in Alberta, and I'm also a member of the BBQ on the Bow Society, which runs one of Canada's oldest BBQ competitions entering year 26 in 2018. When I'm not busy with BBQ, I get to play with airplanes all day working with the WestJet Tech Ops team. Recently, I've been elected to the role of President of CBBQS which is a great honor. I'm looking forward to working with everybody to improve the state of BBQ in Canada and provide improved value to our members. It won't be easy, but thankfully I have a great group of folks to help.

Chapter Lead - Saskatchewan

Scott Chomos
Scott Chomos is the pit master of Arrowhead North BBQ, a family based BBQ team that just completed their 4th year on the competition circuit. 2016 was by far and away our most successful year, highlighted by our trip to the Jack and American Royal (and of course winning the 2016 CBBQS Canadian Team of the Year.) Attending these major U.S. events was an incredible eye opener, from the passion and skill of the pit masters, the quality of their BBQ, the interest from the public and the camaraderie amongst the teams. All of these things make me excited about continuing to build the sport of competition BBQ in the Great White North.

Chapter Lead - Southern Ontario

Marc LeBlanc
BBQ for me is a way of life. I got involved in competition BBQ back in 2011 at a small amateur event in Listowell, Ontario. Our team came 2nd out of 2 teams. Regardless, the fun we had, the people we met, the things we learned we were hooked. A few years and many contests later my passion for BBQ grows more each day. I love competing in BBQ, having my family involved with me, I love the people I've met and continue to meet. I love cooking BBQ, talking about BBQ and how BBQ brings communities together. BBQ in our region is growing and I'm happy to be a part of helping it grow! If anyone - general public, event organizer, fellow competitor, a BBQ judge - ever wants to chat BBQ just reach out, I'd love to have a chat!
